Hibbing's Jeff Provinzino passed leader Adam Hensel with two laps remaining in the 40 lap

Late Model feature and pulled away on the white flag lap to win his second Silver 1000

WISSOTA Late Model title. Provinzino won his first Silver 1000 in 2005. Eleven former Late

Model champions were on hand for the 37th running of the event and eight of them made the starting lineup for the feature.

Two time champion (1994-‘98) Steve Laursen finished second in his heat but more

importantly finished second in the Pole Dash which gave him the outside of the front row for the

feature next to pole sitter Adam Hensel. Laursen got the jump on Hensel at the outset and pulled

away to a four car length lead in the early going with Danny Young, Pat Doar and Todd Gehl in

the top five. Provinzino was on a mission and moved to fifth while a three car battle for seventh

between Kelly Anderson, Kyle Peterlin and Joel Cryderman raged with Cryderman taking the

position. Laursen soon reached to rear of the field and began the task of making his way past a

four car skirmish for position. With no caution flags and a fast track the half way point was

quickly reached as Laursen led Hensel, Doar and Provinzino as they battled through traffic. A

sudden snap spin by Laursen at the top of turn one brought out the caution flag and Hensel

inherited the top spot. Hensel, Doar, Provinzino and Gehl occupied the top five spots at this

point. Attrition played a paart in the event as 17 of the 25 starters were still running. Provinzino

captured second from Doar as the caution flag again appeared for Jeff Hinkemeyer who went off

the top of turn four with 16 laps remaining. On the restart Provinzino got a run on Hensel who

was able to hold him off. A three car battle for fouth behind the lead duo and third running Doar

included Lance Matthees, Gehl and Young with Gehl taking the spot. Provinzino kept working to

the inside of Hensel and with two laps remaining made the pass for the lead and the win. Hensel,

Doar, Gehl and Matthees finished in the top five.

Duane Dale of Aurora, MN led the Como Modified feature from the pole for a clean sweep of

the event including Heat, Dash and feature win. Dale led flag to flag for an extra $600 in lap

money. It was a difficult 30 laps as numerous caution flags, especially in the first half, starting

with a first lap first turn incident that involved the entire back half of the field slowed the action

and kept the front runners close to Dale. Running behind Dale were defending Como Modified

Series champion Al Uotinen, Kelly Checkalski, Brent Procchnow and Jeff Spacek. Prochnow

was involved in a clash with Rick Kobs and dropped out with damage to the steering. Como

point leader Darrell Nelson was having a horrible night and was the cause of two caution flags

when his car stalled. With the half way point reached Dale led Checkalski, Uotinen, Nick Lavato,

Jad Carlson and Rick Jacobson in the top five. Jeff Wood, Justin Jones, Greg Chesley and Dave

Cain in the top ten with only 13 of the 25 starters running. Dale's victory was his first Como

Modified Series win and was the fifth different Series winner this season. Uotinen, Lavato,

Carlson and Jacobson finished in the top five.
